Oil for the Journey
Anointing Service
Oil for the Journey
Every new month represents movement — a new journey. And God never ordains a journey without supplying the oil required to sustain it. This anointing service centers on Psalm 23, read as a declaration over the anointing oil we carry with us into the month ahead.
Reading: Psalm 23
"He renews my strength. He guides me along the right path, bringing honor to His name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for You are close beside me." — Psalm 23:3-4
The oil symbolizes the Holy Spirit — empowerment, preservation, and consecration. Just as food you eat stays with you wherever you go, the Spirit of the Lord that dwells in you goes with you everywhere. We are carriers of the Holy Spirit, and that anointing is what keeps us from being afraid in the darkest valley.
What the Oil Does For You
- The journey through life is inevitable — the oil sustains you through it.
- The oil empowers you to start right and stay on the right path to the finish line, as with David, who was anointed long before he ever sat on the throne.
- The oil keeps you from drying out and growing weak in hidden seasons, and it sharpens your sensitivity to hear God's instruction.
- The oil of joy — from Isaiah 61:3 — turns mourning into festive praise.
Marked, Authorized, Empowered
As you go through this month, remember: you are marked with the blood of Jesus and the Spirit of the Holy Ghost. You are authorized to stand against every scheme of the enemy. And you are empowered — not to be afraid or jittery, but to exercise the power God has already given you.
It is not enough to start a month; you must finish it with testimony. The oil will keep you from drying out and break every resistance along the way, so that you finish this journey strong.
